For over 10 years…

HoverFly Media has been working with solopreneurs, small businesses, startups, and nonprofits in all aspects of digital marketing, web design, and event management.

Located in Washington, DC & Martha’s Vineyard, HoverFly started in 2009, with the main goal to help clients navigate the complicated digital arena.  Today, we are still dedicated to that goal. We offer strategic guidance through online marketing to those without multi-million dollar marketing budgets or large in-house staffing, filling a space necessary for any brand to succeed.

We provide expertise in content marketing and online branding and work with a knowledgeable and experienced team of professionals who come from backgrounds in media, public relations, SEO, branding, business relations, advocacy, and more.  Our goal is to help our clients find a space in the digital world to shine and bring their own expertise, product, or service before audiences they may otherwise struggle to reach.

At HoverFly Media, we pride ourselves on direct account management and accessibility, where every client has one-on-one access. We work with you to set and reach your goals. We are not simply results-driven but rather results-driven through practiced strategy and action.

The History of HoverFly

In 2008 social media was really taking off. Facebook had been around a few years, Twitter was gaining momentum and the idea of these new platforms and ways of networking was amazing to me. I was so enthralled with catching up with old friends from high school, being able to connect with family that lived farther away,  and making new connections as if I were at a live event chatting away with new and interesting people. It was an amazing time. Then it dawned on me. Businesses, along with most adults were trying to navigate this newer medium as well to reach their customers. Facebook pages became necessary in business marketing, public relations no longer meant pushing op-eds and getting on camera - there were also blogs to consider. I knew from my own work in public affairs at the time that things were changing and I wanted to be a part of it. I have always been a “people-person” and I knew right away I wanted to work directly with people and help them navigate social media.

It was an easy decision for me, as a natural organizer, I knew how to strategize for clients. As a lover of technology, I innately knew how to navigate the newer mediums and platforms. As a curious and creative person, I knew this was my true calling. I had already self-trained as a graphic designer and had dabbled in web design for years prior, so the decision really was easy to grow my ideas and thoughts into HoverFly Media.

The hardest thing to me about starting any business is coming up with a name. I have always lived out my ideas as if there is a fire under my behind so once I decided I knew what I wanted to do, I was ready to DO it and needed a name for my company very quickly. I don’t know how it happened but I found myself Google-ing images of insects. I don’t particularly love insects but I have an affinity for a few and find them fascinating little creatures. I eventually came across a hoverfly. A hoverfly is a small bee with beautiful translucent wings. In an attempt to make it work, I figured, I was sort of ‘hovering’ around social media and keeping an eye on things for my clients. But more honestly, it was a hasty decision that had no real relationship to my company; I really just thought it was a cool little bee. Me and this bee have now been together for 11 years and I could not be happier with my company name choice or prouder of what we have accomplished. Just us, hovering around.
